WICU Kicks off 70th Anniversary with Celebration at Liberty Park
WICU celebrated its 70th anniversary with a party June 27 at Liberty Park.
The celebration started with live interviews with some former employees of WICU. They included:
- Rebecca Hower
- Brian Sheridan, who worked at WICU in the late 1990s
- Frank Rizzone, who worked at WICU for nearly 20 years starting in 1973
- Brian McGrath, the son of the late Ned McGrath, who was with WICU from the 1950s until his death in 1981
City of Erie Mayor Joe Schember stopped by with a proclamation, as did the Director of Administration for Erie County, Gary Lee.
Current Erie News Now anchors Amanda Post and Mike Ruzzi also had fun talking with current on-air personalities who have been at WICU for more than 25 years, including Lisa Adams and Mark Soliday.
The Pennsylvania Air National Guard Band delighted the crowd with its mix of patriotic and pop numbers.
Guests who came out to celebrate were treated to WICU 70th anniversary water bottles, fans and cupcakes.
The party was the first of many events planned to celebrate WICU's milestone. The station plans to rededicate the building where the studios are located, bury a time capsule and air a 70th anniversary special on WICU Thursday, July 18 at 7:30 p.m.
