The committee behind bringing a community college to Erie announced an action plan Wednesday.

The community college committee is advocating for a free-standing community college in Erie County.

Its action plan is a combined media and advocacy campaign to get support for a stand-alone community college.

The plan was developed by the non-profit group Empower Erie.

"We need to have a community college to have a trained workforce, so we can compete in this new global economy," said Ron DiNicola, co-founder of Empower Erie. "That's the piece that's missing from the Erie economic development menu."

Wednesday's plan was announced two months after Erie County Council voted in support of building a community college.
